Introduction To Web Hosting

 home Next

The World Wide Web (www) is a collection of the web sites, all hosted on the computers (called web servers) all over the world. The web server (computer) where your web site's html files, graphics (text file or picture), etc. reside is known as the web host. Web hosting clients simply upload their web sites to a shared (or dedicated) web-server, which the Internet Service Providers (ISP) maintains or provides to ensure a constant, fast connection to the Internet.

What is Web Hosting ?

Web Hosting or Hosting Service Provider (HSP) is a business that provides softwere and hardware technology that supports the need for web pages to be published and viewed on the internet. What is WWW ?

WWW is the acronym of the World Wide Web.

The Web is a computer network all over the world wide.

All the computers in the Web can communicate or transfer the data(text file) and graphics (picture file) with each other.

All the computers use a communication standard called HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) or FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

How does the WWW work?

Web information is stored in file , that file is a text files or picture files are documents called Web pages.

Web pages are files stored on the the computers called Web servers.

Computers reading the web pages are called Web clients.

Web clients access and view these pages with a program called a Web browser.

Popular browsers are Mozilla ,FireFox,Internet Explorer,Opera and Netscape Navigator.

How does a Web Browser access a Web Page?

A Web browser accessa the web page from a web server by a request.

A request is a standard HTTP request containing a page address.

An address may looks like this: http://www.academictutorials.com/default.asp

When access puts up the New Connection window the Host, User ID, and the Password fields are filled in with information from the default shortcut specified in Preferences. So to have it filled in with the information for your web account, you need to create a shortcut and make it the default. We can do this in one step by choosing "Create New Default Shortcut" from the Shortcuts pop-up menu in the New Connection window.

How does a Browser Display a Web Page?

All web pages contain data or information for display

The Web browser displays the page by reading these data or information called document.

The most common way for display these document or information are called HTML tags.

HTML tags look like this <p>This is a Paragraph</p>.

What is a Web Server?

A program providing webpages: a program that serves up webpages when requested by a client, that is called a web browser.

A computer that delivers (serves up) Web pages. Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name. For example, if you enter the URL http://www.academictutorials.com/default.asp in your browser, this sends a request to the server whose domain name is academictutorials.com. The server then fetches the page named default.asp and sends it to your browser. Any computer can be turned into a Web server by installing server software and connecting the machine to the Internet.

Most common is to use an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

What is an Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

An Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that offers users access to the Internet and related services. Most telecommunications operators are ISPs. They provide services such as Internet transit, domain name registration and hosting, dial-up access, leased line access and colocation.
