OWL is a language for defining the ontologies.
Ontology describes an area of the knowledge. It can be used by people, or
software, to share information about the objects like automobiles,
houses, medicine, books, production, financial transactions,
etc.
OWL is designed to be used for the processing information
(instead of displaying the information).
