SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) was designed to enable the multimedia presentations on the web.

A SMIL presentation can be composed of audio, video, images, text, and other media types also.

SMIL is an XML based HTML-like language also.

HTML+TIME stands for Timed Interactive Multimedia Extensions for the HTML. It is a proposal for adding the SMIL 1.0 timing and synchronization support to HTML.

HTML+TIME was submitted to W3C by Microsoft, Macromedia, Compaq/Digital and Digital Renaissance.

HTML+SMIL (a modification of the HTML+TIME) was included in an early SMIL 2.0 Working Draft.

When SMIL 2.0 became W3C Recommendation, HTML+SMIL was removed from SMIL 2.0 and added as a separate Working Draft renamed XHTM+SMIL

XHTM+SMIL provides support for the SMIL 2.0 functionality like animation, media, timing, synchronization, and transitions directly in XHTML.

XHTML+SMIL is currently a Note submitted to the W3C with the intention that it can be used as a basis to the work of integrating SMIL functionality into the XHTML.

SMIL 1.0 became W3C Recommendation.

HTML+TIME was submitted to the W3C by Microsoft, Macromedia, Compaq/Digital and Digital Renaissance as a proposal for adding SMIL 1.0 timing and synchronization support to HTML.

HTML+TIME was added to SMIL 2.0 Working Draft, renamed as HTML+SMIL.

22. June 2000
HTML+SMIL was removed from SMIL 2.0 Working Draft.

SMIL 2.0 became the W3C Recommendation
